Advertising in the Start menu? The new Windows 11 update has some controversial features.
A new optional update for Windows 11 introduces a change to the Start menu that users of this operating system probably won’t like.
Microsoft has released a new optional update for Windows 11 that has a controversial feature. The most important feature of this update (22621.1485) is adding Microsoft account notifications to the Start menu. Microsoft says these notifications are only displayed to a small group of users, but they will be visible widely in the coming months.
According to Windows Central, the first change caused by the new Microsoft system is the OneDrive notification, which asks the user to save their files on this cloud service. Microsoft does not consider these types of notifications as advertising, and this can be controversial. Advertisers are actually using the Start menu to advertise their other services.
You can download the latest optional update to Windows 11 through the settings menu. If everything goes according to plan, the discussed change will also be applied in the new stable version of Windows 11, which will be released next month.
