Sony may add NFTs to PlayStation 5 games
A new patent shows that Sony is looking to add NFTs to games on the PlayStation 5 console.
Sony has filed a new patent that relates to a framework for transferring and using non-fungible tokens (NFTs) across multiple gaming platforms. Sony has shown interest in the NFT space in recent years.
According to Cointelegraph, Sony’s NFT framework is set to bring the tokens into gaming titles. For example, an NFT may be presented in the form of a personal skin for a game’s main character. Gamers will be able to transfer ownership of the NFT across different platforms.
If the new system is implemented Sony PlayStation 5 users will be able to use NFTs in popular games. Sony has a large number of users worldwide. By the end of last year, the number of active PlayStation Network service users had reached 112 million.
